I have a PhD in Music Technology from McGill University (2019), advised by Marcelo M. Wanderley and Stéphane Huot, and a background on Computer Science, with a BSc (2009) and an MSc (2013) at CIn-UFPE, supervised by Geber Ramalho.
My research concerns Human-Computer Interaction applied to artistic creative practice. I’m interested in: (1) designing new visual interfaces to empower artistic practice; and (2) understanding how these artists embody and express themselves through visual computational tools. My thesis focused on direct manipulation for musical interfaces based on visual software. I publish my research on international venues, such as NIME and IEEE VL/HCC. I’m also a computational artist (a.k.a. Jeraman), working with speculative software design. My work has received some notable awards in Brazil, such as the Prêmio Sergio Motta de Arte e Tecnologia.
Before starting my PhD, I was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at UAG-UFRPE (2013). I proudly contributed to the Laboratorio de Computação e Arte (LaboCA, 2010-2012) and the Batebit (2013-2015).
